Never Can Say Goodbye, No No, No No, Nooo…

In business, you’ve likely come across those golden team members, partners or stakeholders who you’ve relied on as part of your business family. Over time, for whatever reason though, you’ve parted ways and said “good bye.” Perhaps they’ve played an integral role in helping you achieve your goals. So, how often do you revisit these relationships after you’re no longer doing business with them? As your career and business grows, it may prove beneficial to stay in touch with these folks…who knows when they may become part of your valuable extended family once more? And besides, wouldn’t you love them to be out there sharing positive stories about working with you? Got anyone you could get back in touch with?

So, what’s it take to be a world-class leader in any industry, organization, or position?  Here’s my stab at the answer.

Mediocre teams are found all around us—primarily because too few team leaders lack the understanding of the basics of building elite teams.

Here is Quick Tip #3 For Building Elite Teams: COMMITMENT. For leaders to build highly effective, elite teams he/she must be certain team members want to participate on the team.  Too often we find leaders assuming this to be true, while some members wish they were serving elsewhere.

It’s absolutely essential every member believes in the mission and goals of the team—without total commitment to mission, no team will experience enduring success.

To build commitment, leaders must ensure each team member understands their particular role in the organization, and the value they bring to accomplishing the mission.  Additionally the leader must ensure each member understands and respects the roles and value their fellow team members bring to accomplishing the mission.

Leaders must develop recognition and reward programs to acknowledge member contributions; and members expect ongoing professional development and an environment filled with excitement and challenges.

Everyone wants to be on an elite, winning team—it’s the team leader’s responsibility to make sure these quick tips are implemented to make that possible.

The Octogram: What Do You Look Like?

On November 27, 2010, in Leadership, Team Building, Tools, by Larry Broughton

OK, so this is what I look like…according to The Octogram at Online Talent Manager‘s website.  Hmmm… A high Achiever, Strategist and Pioneer? Sounds right.  Eight competing values and roles are measured by the Octogram test.  It’s great as a self assessment tool for leaders and entrepreneurs, and very useful in developing effective teams!  Thank you to Bert Goos for introducing me to this tool.
